Use a template or build a unique website?
Website from a ready-made template
Most often, a template is used to mix colours, fonts and content to make a website that fits your company's style. When you can find a suitable template that fits your company's goals and image, it can be a high quality and certainly the cheapest option for creating a website. However, it can take a long time to find the right template, and if you later decide that you want to add a new design element or change sections, this can be difficult, as many templates will not accommodate such changes. As a result, the developer may charge more to make the changes, as they will have to make changes to a strictly structured website code. Ready-made templates are mostly designed for quick and frequent changes to the structure of a website.
According to the Agile philosophy and our experience, most of the best design and content ideas come after the website is published. If you want to build and develop content systematically, without stopping at a single point, then this option is unlikely to be the most suitable, as templates are often of a strictly defined structure, which makes it difficult to implement changes quickly.
Classic development of a unique website
Another option is unique development, where you start with a design in a graphic design programme such as Figma or Adobe Illustrator. In parallel, the content of the website is planned and then the technical development (programming) starts.
This type of web design allows you to fully adapt your website to your company's goals and image, but it will take several months and cost at least €2,000 more than the first option, where the website is built from a template. Creating a full design from scratch and programming will always cost more, but it will also allow you to implement the most unique ideas and add unique functionalities. It is usually easier to make structural changes more quickly on sites designed in this way, as the solutions are more flexible and developers will be able to navigate them well. If implemented correctly, this option can be suitable for a large project with unique functionalities and very fast turnaround, but the emphasis here should be on "if the solution is designed correctly". Some clients have come to us with unique solutions that have been developed in advance, have no documentation and do not allow for quick simple changes to the website. As a result, in such cases, we have to completely redesign the solutions so that they can quickly adapt to the company's needs in the future.
Unique website development with block technology
An even better way is to create a website using a block editor, which
- offers the advantages of both types of development described above;
- get you to the desired result as quickly as possible;
- and reduces the payback period for investments.
Design can still be anything you can imagine. We build the website from pre-prepared blocks and program new blocks for a specific solution only when necessary. At the same time, the variety of blocks is unlimited. Individual structural elements of the website, with a certain design, make up these blocks.
These smaller blocks allow you to create a website incredibly quickly. The number of combinations, even with pre-made blocks, is enormous, and if necessary, additional IT resources are only needed to create new blocks. Like Lego bricks, we combine blocks into a unique structure and design. Each block has its own editing options already built in, but if something even more unique is needed, we simply create a new block as a separate module that can be easily linked to the rest of the website structure.
The technology of the blocks means that the design, content and inter-arrangement of the blocks can change at any time. If a new idea for a section at the beginning, middle or end of the homepage comes up, we can insert an additional block within minutes and the latest version of the homepage is ready to publish immediately. In traditional development, this would take hours or even days and cost at least 10 times more.
We recommend publishing the block website on the third day of the project, as this allows it to appear immediately in Google results. Then gradually build additional content to the website, and add new design elements as a result.
When you hand in your project, you will also be able to edit the content and change the layout of the blocks on the website.
