When choosing a data export format, you should first consider the platform to which you plan to export the data, as websites such as facebook.com, ss.lv, and google.com usually only support one type of data export file, and these files must be tailored specifically to that platform.
There are three different file formats that can be supported by different platforms, but each data format will be most suitable for different situations.
CSV should be selected if the data is tabular.
For example, if you can display your data in a single Excel table with entries arranged in rows under column headings, then this data format may be suitable for your data export solution.
JSON should be chosen if the data is complex, branched, or if you are working with applications and API solutions.
JSON is chosen, for example, for a product catalogue where one product can come in different variations with different sizes, colours, configurations, and each product is available in different quantities in stores.
XML, similar to JSON, can store more structurally complex data, but this format is more common in certain industries.
The RSS format is widely used, which is actually an XML file created with a specific standardised structure. For example, in mobile applications, RSS readers can read RSS data and display the latest website articles that have not been read before on the phone.
